Swim Lessons

This week, Addie had Swim Lessons. We signed up for private lessons with her friend, Will. I went in with pretty low expectations. I mean, she’s one years old, and Addie likes to do things on her own time. The first day we went, it was rough. She was MAD. She did NOT like someone telling her what to do, and when to do it. (Mr. Calvin -the teacher- told her that he was in charge, not her, and that she was welcome to stand there and cry if she wanted, and that he would wait for her to finish. Which she did, for a second. Then she realized he was serious, and got over herself. Ha) Will, however, LOVED it. The next day (it was four days in a row) we told her it was a giant bathtub. Apparently, that’s all it took. She was instantly happy. And did what she was supposed to do, as she was told to do it. That made the rest of the week go much smoother!

In their lessons, they learned how to blow bubbles, paddle their arms correctly, kick their legs correctly, float on their backs, sit on the edge of the pool until you let them know it’s okay to get it. Then once they first get in the pool from the side, to immediately turn around and swim to the side and hold onto the edge.

I’m really glad we did these, and we’re going to continue them on a weekly basis this summer.
