No More Tonsils!

Addie had to get her Tonsils and Adenoids out this week, as well as get the tubes removed form her ears. Talk about fun times with a 3 year old! We're hoping that this surgery helps with a lot of "issues" she has. (Sleeping habits, eating habits, etc)

Luckily I called in GiGi to help us out, and it was a good thing I did. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have survived the week without her.

We started off the morning at Williamson Medical Center at 6 am. Addie was a trooper, and luckily was too distracted with all the new games I put on her iPad that she never even asked for anything to eat or drink (thank goodness!!).

They got us all registered and checked in quickly, and Addie liked that her new anklet matched my new bracelet. :)

We got to go back into a room pretty quickly, which was nice. Addie played some more games and watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while I signed paperwork with the nurse.

She was NOT pleased when she learned she had to take off her new Rapunzel Nightgown and trade it in for this Tigger gown...

Luckily, she's easily bribed, and the promise of a Snowflake Dora did the trick and convinced her that her new gown was just perfect.

She was quite pleased that she had earned her Dora!

The nurse came in and had Addie drink some "special juice" that helped her relax, and you could tell the second it took effect. Ha.

The staff at Williamson Medical Center was AMAZING and they were so incredibly sweet. They let her take ALL of her stuffed animals and dolls back with her, and made sure she had them back on her bed before she woke up. Addie was almost completely asleep by the time she was wheeled back to the OR.

We headed out to the waiting room, and were told it would be about an hour or so. GiGi went and got us some breakfast, and after about 40 minutes, Dr. Mowry was back in the conference room with us. He informed us that her tonsils and adenoids were HUGE, and that everything went perfect and they would buzz us as soon as she was awake. (We had a beeper that they had given us) After a few minutes, they buzzed and I headed back while GiGi gathered up our stuff. I could hear Addie yelling as soon as I walked through the doors back to recovery, however, she was NOT yelling for her Mama. She was yelling for her Dora doll. The girl has priorities. Haha.

I climbed up in her bed with her, and after a while she eventually calmed down.

She was pretty pathetic. She would wake up and kind of cry, while GiGi and I forced tried to convince Addie to drink something so we could get her off her IV (which she was NOT a fan of).

After a LONG 3 hours in recovery, they said we could head home. We stopped on the way home and got Addie's meds, and headed home for what was going to be a LONG week.

She did NOT sleep much the first afternoon, at all (which was surprising..). She was VERY excited, however, to open up all of her presents that Aunt Liz was sweet enough to send her. LOTS of coloring books, games, etc. to help keep her calm.

She did pretty well, although the hour before she was supposed to take her next dose of medicine was VERY rough. And that trend contined thoughout the week. She slept really good that first night though, which was nice.

Day 2, however, was NOT pretty. At all. Addie cried MOST of the day, refused to eat or drink anything, had a steady 102 degree fever, and was not very pleasant to be around.

Each day after that got a bit better. People were sweet enough to send her Get Well Cards, and that always brightens her day!

She has gotten to catch up on a LOT of sleep as well!

She's slowly starting to eat things again, and is drinking without fighting us, and seems to be on the mend!

I'm so glad we've gotten this behind us, and hopefully she'll be sleeping and eating like normal in no time!!

Whoa.

It's been 2 months since I've blogged. Lots has happened, including Addie turning THREE, Ryan getting promoted, and us being in the middle of a move to Nashville. Changes are a coming.... and then I WILL catch up!

Sassy Louise

Today was a bad day. Like, the worst day I've had in a LONG time. I had to put my sweet, loving baby to sleep. I KNOW she was just a dog, but she was my BABY. Being that I got her when I was 18, she's the one who taught me to love and care for someone BESIDES myself. I feel like I lost a part of myself when I had to get her put to sleep. She has had a rough year this year. Lots of health problems. The last couple of weeks were the worst. She was pathetic. We were at the vet every single day for 2 weeks. Her doctors were AMAZING, as were her nurses. They tried everything possible, but her little body had just had all it could take, and was shutting down. I knew today would be her last appointment. After Addie fell asleep, Sassy wouldn't come out of the bathroom (where her bed was). So, Sassy and I spent all night on the bathroom floor together. I loved on her, and told her how much she meant to me. When we got up the next morning, I was explaining to Addie that we had to take Sassy back to the vet again because she was very sick still, and that she probably wouldn't be coming back home with us. Addie ran and grabbed Sassy's favorite blanket, then grabbed her own favorite stuffed animal, and told me we should take them because they'd help her feel better. She then asked me if I would take a picture of them before we left. Poor Sassy could barely hold open her eyes, but OH how I will treasure this sweet picture for the rest of my life. My two babies.

Memorial Day Weekend

The Schweizer Family has their annual "reunion" every Memorial Day weekend at the Tennessee Property. It's fun to catch up with everyone, and to see lots of people, although with a 3 year old it tends to prove a bit more difficult to actually visit with everyone. However, we had a good time, and Addie seemed to have fun as well. Liz and I spent most of our time chasing the girls around, but we really did get to visit with some other people. :)

Uncle Chris and Iain "fishing" behind the cabin.

Aidan reading to Addie.

Jack reading to Penny.

Granddaddy and Addie throwing rocks in the river.

Addie, Jack, and Granddaddy. Jack was being SO sweet to Addie, and kept finding her special heart shaped rock she was throwing for her over and over.

Penny had a FANTASTIC time playing in the dirt.

Special Girls.

Addie is nothing if not classy.

And, since it WAS her birthday while we were there, why not have another Birthday Cake! :)

Aunt Liz being the "ring" in Ring around the Rosie.

Love these sweet cousins.

This picture of Granddaddy and Addie just makes me laugh.

All in all we had a fun few days at the Property. The girls ended the trip with trying out Addie's tent and her new Princess Sleeping Bag (which they both fit in together).

Pretending to Sleep.
